Setting back to ages ago when colors never showed in media or presented artwork by paper or screen. Before a photo consisted of color; before monochromatic photography had shadows and highlights. Long ago, color was simply a vision of life, and in those times, colors held different meanings.
Dating back to the Renaissance times, Europe found it’s way into a newly found vision of artistry, culture, and economic stability. Art became a valued part of life, its impression in homes and galleries recognized art as work from artists about.
My passion for historic poetry and art has influenced my writing and fine art photography for years. When thinking about colors utilized in art with strong definitions in modern life, I searched for three: red, white, and purple.
During the Renaissance times, the color red was actually seen as a color of power and strength. It was seen in wealth and was used as a color of strength and persuasion. Regal reds mediated their way into architecture and design. Red was not pain; but power.
White was considered as chastity; similar to modern times. In relation to red, the two often resembled a common man and woman of the house hold. A power and a dove. Something much demoted in modern society. The hues and strength in longevity when utilizing the color often played roles in its importance. The shade of white faded quickly. As for red pigments lasted for long periods of time.
The color purple was significant to regal royalty. Kingdoms, kings and queens used purple in their homes as a sense of wealth.
In Renaissance times, red, white, and purple all held importance in power, persuasion, value, and class. Something much explored in poetry as in the search for the meaning of submission and power struggles, these three colors vitally start the division of my poetry at heart.
Red: Power and Strength
Rises in the dark
The blood of the heart, throbbing,
Red fire burning
The strength of an eagle's wings
strong in the storm
Iron the line
beating to the heart
magnanimity
Peak to the stars.
picture of kings
In the old kingdoms,
Shine on the bloody sandals
Eternal strength and power.
rising again, iron in hand,
Heart beating in a burning pulse,
the rush of life
The blush of the sun, the image of victory.
Red is the law
bloody dictatorships
A stranger to existence.
It will not cease, it will not flow,
In mourning, in joy,
Always and everywhere,
You want evil heart and glory
Red, shining fire.
Of the color White
Candor, light, infinite hope,
The way of life, and the soul properly.
In silence, but beautiful
White signs, no soul.
In the color purple
In kings, purple shines,
bloody latex on the clothes,
Gold does not equal dignity
In dreams and in life, power.
Queens bloom before him
In purple sails, bright light,
Empire, honor, and glory,
Intoxicate hearts with this divinity.
The sacred itself has no crime.
The dawn is bright in color,
Life leads to the stars
Eternal time, the festival of time.
Let purple blossom in the seats,
Royal wisdom, perpetual;
Truth and beauty in steps
In the color purple, our way.
